Car hit building in M’town shopping plaza

An Old Bridge woman hit Universal Fitness, Route 35 South, in Middletown, at 1:09 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, according to Middletown Police Cpl. James Roese.

Roese and Ptl. Nick Caprio responded to the scene.

Roese said Mary Malloy’s foot slipped off the brake while her car was parked, hit the gas pedal and accelerated into the building at 1866 Route 35 South.

Roese said Malloy’s car hit the frame of address 1868, where it came to its final rest.

He said no one was injured other than the driver and that there were no passengers in the car.

Roese said Malloy, about 65 years old, sustained an injury to the left side of her neck, which he said was probably from the seatbelt before the 1998 silver Acura’s airbag deployed.

He said Malloy was taken to Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank.

Roese said the case is pending investigation and that there have not been any charges made yet.

Caprio said the car would be towed and the landlord reimbursed by the insurance company for any damages to the building.
